Designerul a introdus oficial haine pentru bărbați pe pista de toamnă a anului 2023.
Ultima dată (și chiar prima dată) LaQuan Smith a purtat LaQuan Smith a fost la CFDA Premii în noiembrie, unde a fost nominalizat pentru Designerul american al anului. Setul acela evazat, împreună cu Lenny Kravitzlui costum decupat personalizat purtat pentru aceeași ocazie, au fost singurele iterații de îmbrăcăminte pentru bărbați pe care le-am văzut de la designer - până acum.
Pentru toamna 2023, LaQuan Smith a dezvăluit o nouă direcție pentru brand. Amplasat la Rainbow Room din Rockefeller Center, spectacolul a început cu Frida Aasen apărând deasupra capului pe o platformă (Rihanna-la-Super-Bowl-style) in rochie mini blazer si servieta mare din piele. Cele 36 de look-uri care au urmat au fost un spectacol complet al anilor '80 Hollywood glamour, încărcat de sexy și nervos.
„Sezonul acesta, colecția este inspirată din costume de seară și eleganța retro; măreție sexy sofisticată cu o notă de nostalgie”, a spus Smith într-o declarație de presă.
Modelele au coborât pe scara argintie în muzică jazz, cu lumini dramatice de scenă dansând pe podea. Modelele s-au potrivit cu teatralitatea decorului - de la o rochie neagră transparentă, cu un decolteu adânc și decupat din plasă, până la o haină uimitoare din blană artificială stratificată peste un tricou cu strasuri.

Incursiunea lui Smith în îmbrăcămintea pentru bărbați este la fel de plină de farmec, cu jachete decupate la două piept și paltoane dramatice cu blană albă. Costumele croite, cu linii și decupaje clare, curate, păstrează identitatea semnăturii și simțul de margine a lui Smith.

Spectacolul s-a înfășurat cu Smith însuși purtând aspectul final: o meserie neagră cu gât floral și o pereche de pantaloni negri rigizi.
Merită remarcat faptul că, pentru toamna 2023, Smith face o abatere vizibilă de la o paletă de culori strălucitoare, incorporând în schimb tonuri și tonuri neutre mai calde, mai bogate, evocând senzații corporale de căldură și confort.
