Le créateur a officiellement présenté la mode masculine sur le podium de l'automne 2023.
La dernière fois (et la toute première fois) La Quan Smith portait LaQuan Smith était à la CFDA Awards en novembre, où il a été nominé pour le Designer américain de l'année. Cet ensemble évasé, avec Lenny Kravitzc'est costume découpé personnalisé porté pour la même occasion, étaient les seules itérations de vêtements pour hommes que nous avions vues du créateur - jusqu'à présent.
Pour l'automne 2023, LaQuan Smith a révélé une nouvelle direction pour la marque. Situé à la Rainbow Room à l'intérieur du Rockefeller Center, le spectacle a commencé avec Frida Aasen apparaissant au-dessus d'une plate-forme (Rihanna au Super Bowl-style) en robe mini blazer et une grande mallette en cuir. Les 36 looks qui ont suivi étaient un affichage complet des années 80 Hollywood glamour, chargé de sex-appeal et de nervosité.
« Cette saison, la collection s'inspire du tailleur de soirée et de l'élégance rétro; grandeur sophistiquée sexy avec une touche de nostalgie", a déclaré Smith dans un communiqué de presse.
Les mannequins ont descendu l'escalier d'argent au son de la musique jazz, avec un éclairage de scène dramatique dansant sur le sol. Les créations correspondaient à la théâtralité du décor – d'une robe noire transparente avec un décolleté plongeant et une découpe en maille à un manteau en fausse fourrure éblouissant superposé à un justaucorps en strass moulant.

L'incursion de Smith dans la mode masculine est tout aussi glamour, avec des vestes courtes à double boutonnage et des manteaux spectaculaires bordés de fourrure blanche. Les costumes sur mesure avec des lignes nettes et épurées et des découpes conservent l'identité et le sens de l'avant-garde de Smith.

Le spectacle s'est terminé avec Smith lui-même portant le look final: un col roulé à fleurs en maille noire et une paire de pantalons noirs rigides.
Il convient de noter que, pour l'automne 2023, Smith s'écarte sensiblement d'une palette de couleurs vives, incorporant à la place des neutres et des tons plus chauds et plus riches, évoquant des sensations corporelles de chaleur et confort.
